Nexos Voluntarios is working with an association of local artisans to upgrade the marketplace, help artisans buy inputs collectively to negotiate better prices, teach English and basic accounting, hold design workshops encouraging artisans to differentiate their products, and reach out to international websites selling Peruvian crafts.
About the Mercado Artesanal
The outdoor market was constructed in 2007 and has 60 stalls of pottery, textiles and jewelry made by local artisans. It is located next to the bus terminal on the main highway, on the left if you are facing the bus terminal from the highway. The market is open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

About Urubamba
Urubamba is located in Peru's Sacred Valley (Valle Sagrado) about 1 hour north of Cusco. It functions as a regional transit hub for the area. It's 8000 residents are mostly of Quechuan descent. Many survive on only 100 Soles/month, less than $1/day.
